“Welcome to Lust Bistro and Bakery” on a warm sunny day in Simondium in Paarl. The cozy bistro is situated on Vrede en Lust wine estate. The perfect spot to line your stomach before going for a wine tasting. The Lust Bistro is newly renovated and started it’s new beginnings in September last year. Not even one year and the new look & menu is a hit!

Chef Jean Pierre is the master mind behind the delightful menu. After a few years of travelling abroad, Chef Jean Pierre enrolled at the Institute of Culinary Arts in Stellenbosch. In his own words; “I had no set plan. I’m lucky it turned out the way it did.” It turned out to be a great success!

Food Lust

Lust Bistro & Bakery has a refreshing bistro menu and makes use of local produce. The special touch is the wood-fired oven that has a lingering aroma. To keep things fresh and trendy, Chef Jean Pierre writes daily specials on the blackboard.

Start us off!

The Salmon Fishcakes are served with a fresh garden salad and chilli syrup. The Salmon fishcakes was fresh and the perfect portion size for a starter. Lust Bistro suggests you pair the Salmon fishcakes with a Sarah or Sauvignon Blanc.

An Artis(an)t at making bread.

Chef Jean Pierre’s artisan sourdough breads takes a minimum of three days to make. He finishes it off in the wood-fired oven. This is quality you won’t find in your local supermarket. A bread board is usually served at lunch time. This is more like a “tasting board,” so you can taste the varies artisan breads. My personal favourite; the Multi-seed whole-wheat.

Be the Sandwich boss!

One thing I liked {a lot} about the Lust Bistro is the “Sanwhich Menu.” A checklist where you can select the type of bread, fillings and spread. The perfect thing for someone like me, who likes to try their own flavour combo’s.

The artisan bread was amazing, but the blackboard special of the day looked really appealing. Who can say no to a homemade pita pocket filled with lamb shavings, grilled brinjals, cucumber raita, blanched tomatoes and a hint of chili. The lamb pita didn’t only look good. It tasted great! The lamb and raita combo worked well together, and the hint of chilli brought out the flavours even more.

ps. I would’ve loved to try the Trio of Sorbet, especially on this warm summer’s day.
